Besides the ridiculously good food, the beautiful beaches, the stunning architecture, and the warm and welcoming people, Cartagena does not get lazy on their cocktails. After being so impressed with the attention to detail and carefully crafted cocktails on our first trip to Cartagena. We decided to do some tough research. Here are the best places in Cartagena for some of the most amazing craft cocktails you will ever have. Anywhere.
El Arsenal: The Rum Box
Located just a two minute walk from the entrance of the walled city in the Getsamani area, the Rum Box is the product of their master mixologist, Abraham. From the minute you walk in you will be greeted with a warm hug and seduced by the scents of cinnamon, rum, and chocolate. The rum box IS Colombia. Carrying the largest collection of Colombian rums anywhere in the world, this place is not to be missed. The complexity of their cocktails is world-class all around and they have delicious food to boot.
El Baron, located inside the walled city, is the product of mixologist Noah Matthies. Noah, a chemist and mixologist from Germany, decided to make Cartagena his home after falling in love with the city on his travels (We don’t blame him). Opening El Baron in 2013, Noah took the opportunity to expand on Cartagena’s limited cocktail knowledge at the time. With in house dried local fruits and herb infused spirits, they have some of the most complex and delicious cocktails in Cartagena.
Alquimico Rooftop Bar
Boasting a great atmosphere and some of the best craft cocktails in the city, Alquimico is not to be skipped. Located in a multi-level colonial mansion, Alquimico is not only known for their in house constructed spirits such as their ginger rum, but also has an exquisite space and atmosphere that will keep you there well into the night.
Considered to be one of the best bars in Cartagena, Cafe Havana does not disappoint. With a wide-array of delicious hand-crafted cocktails and high-energy live entertainment, you might find yourself staying here later than intended.
Bazurto Social Club
Bazurto, well, has a lot going on. In a good way. Besides delicious cocktails like their signature machacao, they have delicious tapas mostly of seafood. The decor and art gives this place more character than most. With live bands and DJ’s, Bazurto goes late into the night. When it comes to the weekends, you might want to get here a little early to make it inside.
